Closing the June Chapter - a Late Reading Gathering

Goldies June reading marked a perfect ending of June activities. Our reading gatherings would always be seasoned with amusing flavors or added in some side dishes. Sometimes side dishes would outplay the objectives of reading. So, it didn’t surprise us that this month’s reading gathering even covered more features:

First, Lydia invited all of us to read at her place and booked the recreational room so that we
could sing Karaoke to add variety to our reading.
Second, share the tour excitement with those who didn’t went on ShangHai and ChiangNan Tour.
Third, show off the chipaos and other trophies we brought back.
Fourth, read a Chinese poem.
Fifth, photo shot definitely.
Lastly, bring a dish or a kind of snacks for a potluck party.

With so many objectives, our reading was certainly made short again. This time for a change
I’d like to focus the minutes on our reading no matter how short it was or how other side dishes sounded crazier and more exciting.

We began with reading at around 5:30 pm after Sherry showed up with the poem 寒山寺Linda prepared for us. The reason Linda chose it for us must be because we saw a couple of 寒山寺’s during our trip in ChiangNang. Actually we could all recite it as it’s a familiar poem to everyone. Amy impressed us by demonstrating how Japanese sing it. .

Then we moved on to the magazine reading. PPT usage is the main topic for T/Ms magazine May issue. I found it less beneficial and practical to me as I have had some experience in applying PPT in my job field and T/Ms presentations. Nevertheless, I did learn a few ideas from the articles like:

- Use a slide title that actually say something
- Use images, diagrams or graphs, the Tell ‘n’ Show method.
- Divide bullet points into individual slides.
Etc.

- Cut the fat or ‘de-clutter’ your slides. We should have only the most vital information on each slide.

This article pointed out all the problems I have in maintenancing this blog; write regularly,
remember that anyone can read it and be specific. Also, the best blogs are those that provide
valuable information and also ask readers to comment and provide their insights.”

Though we rushed quite a bit to finish the reading, our questions were answered, our doubts were clarified and our thirst for knowledge was quenched.
